80s rock - was it sold out?

This was a good song from the 80s. But the pose of these groups... the looks that sold... it became a stample and reproduced hundreds of time by copycats and wannabes...  after the 80s THAT became the standard! They marketed the image and copied. They made the labels rich... At the cost of stars OD-ing, and stealing the money from kids. Really, who can stay true to theirselves in corporate America without being turned into a money making gimmick/slave by the marketing people??
